Sheffield Wednesday manager Dave Jones will not start new contract talks with any of his players until the club's Championship status has been guaranteed.

The Owls, who lost their first game in five when going down 2-1 at Yorkshire rivals Leeds at the weekend, are four points above the relegation zone with four games left to play.

"When we are there (safety), and not almost there, we will look at it," Jones said.

"There's still a long way to go, nothing is guaranteed, everybody thought that 50 points would be the safety margin, we're on 53 and we're not safe yet.

"We need to keep plugging away and try and finish as high as we can.

"We said that contracts wouldn't get sorted until the end of the season and that's what we've stuck to.

"We want to try and assemble the best squad here, but we want to know what division we will be in before we have contractual talks and I'm sure the players do as well."
