Cameroon midfielder Jean II Makoun is close to joining Aston Villa after Lyon opened talks with the Premier league club.
Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas met Villa and former Lyon manager Gerard Houllier on Wednesday in Paris and both clubs are now waiting to receive a formal consent from the player.
Lyon said in a statement that ''the progress of the talks are still subject to the player and his advisers' agreement.''
Makoun joined Lyon from Lille in 2008 but became a scapegoat for fans earlier this season when the club dropped to 18th place after eight rounds before recovering.

Villa and Lyon have reportedly agreed to a transfer fee believed to be around ?6 million.
