Bayern Munich midfielder Javi Martinez expects to resume training with the squad next week.

The Bundesliga's most expensive transfer at 40 million euros underwent a groin operation in September. His last game for Bayern was in the Super Cup against Chelsea on Aug. 30, when he scored the goal that leveled the match at 2-2. Bayern won on penalties.

Martinez tells Bayern's home page that ''the operation went well and the rehab program is going according to plan.''

The Spaniard says he expects to ''gradually'' return to full practice next week.

Martinez says his return has to be carefully planned to avoid setbacks.

Bayern is leading the Bundesliga after eight rounds after winning the Champions League, the Bundesliga and the German Cup last season.
