The Toffees centre-half was a regular in Capello's plans before damaging cruciate knee ligaments against Manchester City in April 2009. It has been a long road back to full fitness for the former Sheffield United man, but he has slipped seamlessly back into the Goodison Park fold of late. He is now keen to make up for lost time and get as many games under his belt as possible before the end of the season. Jagielka hopes regular run-outs will allow him to catch Capello's eye once more and earn him a seat on the plane to South Africa this summer. "When I had the operation I thought it would mean being out for six to eight months so I thought I would have a sniff of the World Cup, but in fact it was 10 months out," he said. "I would love to be on the plane to South Africa but realistically my return has come a couple of months too late. "I can't expect to be in the squad but I will work with the physios and fitness coaches at Everton and see how I get on. "I might get 10 games until the end of the season and if that is good enough that will be brilliant. If not I will put my England shirt on in the summer and support the boys. "So I will have an England shirt on one way or another - either supporting or playing. "But I have been out for a long time so I would never wish anyone else an injury or get excited when someone does get injured."
