Jack 'desperate' for silverware
The teenager has only recently emerged as a first-team regular at Emirates Stadium, but he is still well aware of the club's infamous wait for silverware. Arsenal have not filled their cabinet since the 2005 FA Cup and critics have questioned manager Arsene Wenger's principles as a result. Wilshere, who is a product of his boss' faith in youth, knows that it is time the Gunners lifted another trophy and the priority is the Premier League. The 18-year-old said ahead of Saturday's London derby against Fulham: "We all realise Arsenal haven't won something for five years. "It's not about patience any more. I've only been around the first team three years and that [wait] feels too long. So I can imagine how (Cesc) Fabregas and (Robin) van Persie feel. "We're all desperate. The main thing we want to win is the Premier League." Wilshere, labelled as England's bright hope for the future, is also determined to keep learning under the guidance of Wenger. "The boss is always telling me what I've done - good or bad," he said. "What's good about him is that he's never pleased; if you have a good game he'll still say, 'You can do more'. He said that to Cesc Fabregas, and look at him now." Wilshere has also revealed his admiration for Wayne Rooney and the Manchester United striker's fellow senior members of the England team. He said: "I remember watching Rooney in training. He's like a kid, just playing football, enjoying it." Wilshere added: "These players are so hungry. If they'd wanted to, they could have just walked away after the criticism they got in the World Cup. "Because they're so professional and dedicated and hungry, they want to make it right in the Euros in two years, and maybe in the World Cup in four years if they're still around."
