Vahid Halilhodzic has been fired as Ivory Coast coach due to the team's disappointing performance at the African Cup of Nations.

Ivorian Football Federation president Jacques Anouma made the announcement late Saturday on the state-owned television station.

Anouma says a new coach will be announced in the coming days for the June 11-July 11 World Cup in South Africa.

Ivory Coast failed to reach the African Cup semifinals in Angola earlier this year.

Halilhodzic took over after Uli Stielike of Germany was fired following a fourth-place finish at the African Cup two years ago.
