Italy midfielder Montolivo to have surgery
Already hard hit by injuries and suspensions this season, Fiorentina has received another blow with midfielder Riccardo Montolivo scheduling surgery on his right ankle.
Fiorentina says that the surgery will take place Nov. 15, after which Montolivo could be out for about two months. The Italy midfielder can continue playing until the surgery.
Earlier this week, goalkeeper Sebastien Frey tore the ACL in his right knee in training. He will also require surgery and could miss the rest of the season, handing the starting job to Polish backup Artur Boruc.
In addition, playmaker Stevan Jovetic is still out long-term due to injury, while forward Adrian Mutu returned Sunday after a nine-month doping ban.
Fiorentina is one point above the relegation zone.
