Ireland hit back from its thrashing by Germany to beat the Faeroe Islands 4-1 on Tuesday in Group C of 2014 World Cup qualifying.

Four days after being hammered 6-1 at home by Germany, Ireland scored all four goals in the second half to relieve the pressure on embattled coach Giovanni Trapattoni.

Goals from Marc Wilson in the 46th minute, from Jonathan Walters in the 53rd, an own goal by Pol Justinussen in the 73rd and an 89th-minute finish from Darren O'Dea helped Ireland improve to six points in the group.

Faeroes substitute Arnbjorn Hansen made it 2-1 in the 68th minute.
