Inter Milan midfielder Thiago Motta has had an arthroscopic cleaning of his right knee.
Inter says the procedure was completed Monday in Vail, Colorado, by noted orthopedist Dr. Richard Steadman.
Steadman had already operated on Motta when the Brazilian played for Barcelona.
Inter did not set a return date for Motta but it is apparent that he will miss the European Super Cup against Atletico Madrid on Friday and Inter's Serie A opener against Bologna three days later.
