Newly signed AS Roma forward Adriano will miss the start of the Serie A season with a right thigh muscle tear.

Adriano was injured during training Wednesday and Roma said that tests Thursday revealed the tear. He could be out for up to a month.

Adriano signed a three-year contract with Roma in June after playing with Flamengo last season. The 28-year-old Adriano was a successful goalscorer for Inter Milan before he ran into weight and personal problems, prompting his departure from the Italian league two seasons ago.

He made his debut for Roma as a substitute in the second half of a 3-1 loss to Inter in last weekend's Italian Super Cup.
