Injury-hit Leverkusen signs Boenisch as cover
Bayer Leverkusen has signed out-of-contract Polish left back Sebastian Boenisch on a free transfer.
The Bundesliga club says the 25-year-old Boenisch, whose contract was not renewed by Werder Bremen last season, has signed a deal until the end of this season.
Boenisch was signed to provide cover for Czech left back Michal Kadlec, out for several weeks after tearing a ligament in his left knee, and fellow defender Daniel Schwaab, who tore an ankle ligament in Wednesday's German Cup win over Arminia Bielefeld.
Leverkusen managing director Wolfgang Holzhaeuser says ''Boenisch is an experienced Bundesliga player who can help us straight away.''
Boenisch says ''it's a huge chance for me. I'm highly motivated and will do all I can to help the club reach its goals.''
