Denmark coach Morten Olsen has dropped veteran goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen from the European Championship squad because of a back injury.

Sorensen was injured during Saturday's friendly against Brazil, and Olsen says he likely ''will not recover in time.''

Olsen on Tuesday called up Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel - the son of Denmark great Peter Schmeichel - as his replacement.

Olsen said it was a ''tough decision'' to discard Sorensen, who has 100 caps, and called it ''a serious blow'' for Denmark, which plays the Netherlands, Germany and Portugal in the toughest group at Euro 2012.
