I'm England's all-rounder - Heskey
Heskey has scored just seven times in 58 appearances for England while his exploits for Aston Villa this season were little to write home about. The former Wigan, Birmingham and Liverpool hitman bagged just three goals in 16 Premier League starts and 15 appearances off the bench. Many felt in-form Darren Bent might get the nod after he scored 24 goals, although it was Heskey's partnership with Wayne Rooney that head coach Fabio Capello looked at. Heskey acknowledges he would like to have scored more goals during his time in a Three Lions shirt, although he has now qualms not scoring providing the team still finishes victorious. "As a striker you're judged on goalscoring. I know people will look at that," explained Heskey. "But I'd like to think I bring a lot more to the game than just that, even though I know people will look at that and I have to take it. "I do take as much pleasure in assists, even if I am self-critical. I like to be part of a winning team and that is what my job is about. "I do sometimes think: 'I could've done better and got a goal myself' but I guess that's part and parcel of the game." The likes of Jermaine Defoe and Peter Crouch are also part of England's 23-man squad for South Africa and Heskey is happy playing alongside anyone up front. However, the 32-year-old knows that Rooney is a class act and he thoroughly enjoys partnering the Manchester United superstar. "I enjoy playing for England, whoever the partnership is with. "Wayne Rooney is one of the best strikers in the world. For me it's great to be playing alongside him."
