Former Real Madrid striker and Mexico coach Hugo Sanchez was named Tuesday as the new coach of Mexican club Pachuca.

Sanchez, who led Mexico in 2006-2008, last coached the Spanish league team Almeria. He replaces Efrain Flores, who failed to reach a contract agreement last week with Pachuca.

Sanchez made his debut in 1976 with Mexican club Pumas and moved to Atletico de Madrid in 1981. He joined Real Madrid in 1985 and won the Spanish league scoring title five times.

His first coaching job was with Pumas in 2000.
