Hughes: We won't seal Tevez deal

The pair worked together at Manchester City, before Hughes was sacked in the December of 2009, and there have been reports of a possible reunion at Loftus Road.

Tevez and City both want to part company after a breakdown in their relationship, but a deal is proving difficult to arrange with AC Milan, who were relying on first offloading Alexandre Pato to Paris Saint-Germain.

It has consequently been suggested QPR's ambitious chairman, Tony Fernandes, could take advantage with a sensational swoop for Tevez following the recent appointment of Hughes.

But after watching his side defeated at Newcastle on Sunday afternoon in his first match in charge, QPR's manager doubted a move could be arranged this month.

"Not in this window, absolutely not," Hughes, who is also bidding for Blackburn's Chris Samba, told Sky Sports at St James' Park regarding Tevez.

"Ideally, I would love the chance to work with Carlos again, but it is not going to happen anytime soon."

Meanwhile, Hughes declined to elaborate on reports QPR are closing in on January swoops for Brazilian duo Alex and Henrique, but he did dismiss suggestions he is ready to offload skipper Joey Barton, who was suspended for the return to former club Newcastle.

Hughes said: "I saw that as well and I think it's one of those maybe mischief-making Sunday-morning-prior-to-an-early-kick-off lead stories.

"From my point of view, there's certainly no suggestion that we are thinking in those terms.

"He is captain of the club, I have re-iterated that this week. Joey is a quality player and we are looking to bring quality in, not to get those type of players out of the building.

"It's fair to say we are in the market for good players if they become available and if they are attainable.

"We would like to think the players we are able to bring in would be the right quality, and I am sure they would be."
