Holloway: Survival is top priority
The Seasiders boss is prepared to write off this year's competition as he concentrates on Premier League survival. With a hectic month ahead, Holloway is planning to send out a side made up of fringe players and youth team members in tomorrow's third-round cup tie at Southampton. Having already played Manchester City and Birmingham, Blackpool still face rearranged league clashes with Liverpool and Manchester United this month as well as regular scheduled fixtures against West Brom and Sunderland. Holloway said: "I want to win everything and one day I will be going for the FA Cup as well with Blackpool. "But we are not in that situation at the moment. "I'm moving some of the youth team up the pecking order and I'm going to give some of the lads who haven't played a go. "If my fans don't like it I do apologise, but I think we can go down there and give a great account of ourselves. "We all play the same way here, we pass it and move. They will play the same way as the older lads and I'll be looking forward to the game. "I won't be taking my main team, they will be rested. "They won't even be on the journey because it is an astronomical distance to go when we have a game on Wednesday against Liverpool." Blackpool have made a big impression in their first season in the Premier League but, despite being 13th, are still just four points above the bottom three, albeit with two games in hand. Holloway believes the extra demands of the division are starting to show on his players and he has no qualms about fielding an under-strength team. The likes of Paul Rachubka, Keith Southern, Dekel Keinan, Rob Edwards and Alex Baptiste could all be given a chance. Brett Ormerod and Jason Euell are likely to face their old club. Holloway said: "If we had already played those postponed games I might not have to do what I am doing now. "But because we haven't, I have to make drastic measures and give some young lads a chance to play. "We have a lot of games this month and that would test anybody's squad, particularly in the Premier League where the physical level and mental pressure you are under to win does take a toll on you. "Some of my lads that I told aren't travelling breathed a huge sigh of relief. I don't think they realised how tired they are. "I need to bring in some more people in this transfer window if I can to try to help them with the workload, otherwise they will tail off." Holloway has nevertheless studied his opponents and has been impressed by the work of Nigel Adkins at St Mary's Stadium. Saints are currently second in League One and have scored 11 goals in their last three games. Holloway said: "They are in fantastic form. "I really like their manager, smashing fella. I have massive respect for him and what he did at Scunthorpe. I wish him all the very best. "I'm sure they'll be on the crest of a wave and good luck to them. "We're going to try to play the way we do, albeit with some different players. "I'm expecting us to give a fantastic account of ourselves and try to win the game." While Holloway looks for potential new signings he is also determined to keep his best players. Star midfielder Charlie Adam has been the subject of reports linking him with other clubs but Holloway does not believe he would want to move. Holloway said: "We're in a great situation. We don't need to sell anyone and I don't think any of my lads would want to move. "If it was Man Utd, Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea, maybe I'd have to talk to them but I don't think any of them would want to go."
