Hodgson: Baggies deserved more
Carlos Vela cancelled out Jamie O'Hara's first-half effort in the dying seconds after Wolves keeper Wayne Hennessey failed to hold on to James Morrison's low drive. The share of the spoils moved the Baggies a point clear of the Premier League drop zone, whilst Wolves remain bottom on goal difference. Hodgson said: "I was certainly happy to see the equaliser but if you mean am I happy because I didn't think we deserved any better, then I'm not. "I thought we deserved better. I thought the performance throughout was good. "I thought we laid siege for long periods on the Wolves goal, but we know they defend well. "They are not an easy team to break down - even harder when they get the one-goal lead. "But I've got to say, if ever a team worked hard for the equaliser, asked questions, forced good saves and blocks, it was us. "In the end when you equalise late in a game you do have that feeling of happiness and satisfaction. "But I'm pretty certain when I think back on Tuesday on the game I won't be quite as happy as I am at this moment in time." Hodgson felt the commitment and desire shown by his players was an encouraging sign for the battles ahead. He said: "The performance told me there is fighting spirit amongst them, that there is a lot of determination and character. "You need that when you play against teams of Wolves' character. "They are organised, disciplined and a very strong team physically and defensively. "If you don't stand up and win your share of challenges, and not give as much effort and commitment as they do on the field, then you lose games. "I thought we matched them in that area. They scored a great, goal, missed a good chance, but apart from that, Boaz Myhill had a very quiet afternoon and I don't think we can say the same for Hennessey." Wolves boss Mick McCarthy refused to condemn Hennessey for his last-gasp blunder. He said: "Of course it is a disappointing end. I am not going to try to deny that. "The performance was very good. I haven't seen the goal yet but it is a bobbly old pitch. "I don't know whether Wayne should have got it and kept it - but he has been brilliant for us. "He has been fabulous. I thought we could have got a block on the original shot. "Overall the performance was good. We had a really good spell second half when we should have got an other goal. "They came back into it but I'll take the point, which we have to do, and we've got Blackpool next week." McCarthy added: "Of course, I am down but I don't think you can detect that speaking to me now. I'm not growling at anyone. "You'd expect me to be a bit disappointed or down but I don't know how you detect that, only by assumption because we lose a goal in the 93rd minute. "We were as comfortable as we've ever been in a game. We lost the ball in the middle of the park and they got on top for three or four minutes and that gave them a bit of impetus."
