Gunners handed Tractor Boys tie
Arsene Wenger's side have a golden chance of reaching another final in their bid for their first trophy since 2005 after they were drawn to face Roy Keane's Championship Ipswich outfit. The Gunners reached the last four with a 2-0 victory over Wigan on Tuesday night and now they must travel to Portman Road in the week commencing January 10 before the home leg two weeks later. Birmingham's reward for beating Aston Villa is a trip to West Ham, with the return leg at St Andrew's. Ipswich reached the last four courtesy of a 1-0 victory over West Brom. Birmingham manager Alex McLeish was delighted by his side's progression, which he felt was deserved. He told Sky Sports 1: "The great thing is we are in the draw, we earned the right to be there. I am really proud of them. "I felt we deserved it for our efforts over a period of time and when you think decisions never go your way. We could have been 2-0 instead of 1-1." Of the draw against the Hammers, the Scot added: "When you get draws like this you tend to think getting the home leg second is beneficial. "We've got to go to West Ham and try to play a game in the first leg to take a result back to Birmingham. "It was never comfortable tonight. I thought they knocked it about better than we did. But I had a good feeling about it today - I was quite calm about it in the dug-out. "I am delighted for them because they have met a lot of challenges over the last 18 months. That was another one tonight. "It's fantastic being in a semi-final, the fact we got this far is terrific. We've got this far, we want to go all the way. "Ipswich show anything can happen. We have got to believe we can beat West Ham." Opposite number Gerard Houllier was disconsolate and believed his side should have won. "I am very disappointed for the fans and very disappointed for the players because I think we were the better team," he said. "We were stunned because I don't think the boys deserve to be out of the competition tonight."
