Greek League Roundup, Feb. 21
Zlatan Muslimovic came off the bench to score the winner on Sunday
as PAOK beat Greek league leader Panathinaikos 2-1 at home to throw
the title race wide open.
With seven rounds to go, Panathinaikos leads with 52 points,
two ahead of both Olympiakos and PAOK.
Panathinaikos controlled the game in the early stages,
squandering a clear scoring chance when a powerful free kick from
the edge of the area by Giorgos Karagounis hit Costas Halkias' post
in the 24th minute.
In the 36th, it was Loukas Vyntra's turn to miss another
chance when his low drive went just wide.
In the dying seconds of the first half, PAOK came close to
scoring when a header from inside the area by Edihno sailed over
Alexandros Tzorvas' crossbar.
A curling free kick by Pablo Garcia gave PAOK the lead on the
hour mark, only for French striker Djibril Cisse to level four
minutes later following a cross by Dimitris Salpingidis.
Muslimovic, who had replaced Edinho in the 52nd minute,
scored the winner in the 68th from a probing ball forward by
Olivier Sorlin.
Panathinaikos almost leveled nine minutes from the end when
Sotiris Ninis' shot from inside the area went wide.
Also Sunday it was: Atromitos 0, Asteras 0; Larissa 0,
Panthrakikos 2; Giannena 2, Panionios 3; and AEK 1, Aris 0.
