Greek FA backs league organizers despite scandal

The head of the Greek football association is opposing calls by the government to scrap the organizing body of the country's top league, following a spate of fan-violence incidents and match fixing allegations.

FA chief Sofoklis Pilavios on Friday offered assistance to Super League to resolve ''existing problems'' and promised tougher financial scrutiny of topflight teams.

Prosecutors are currently investigating allegations of attempts to bribe referees, as well as recent fans attacks including during a Greek Cup semifinal on Wednesday.

PAOK is facing punishment after a fan threw a flare onto the field that hit AEK Athens goalkeeper Sebastian Saja. AEK eliminated PAOK and will face Atromitos in the Greek Cup final on April 30.
