Goalie's attacker gets 30-year ban
A soccer fan was handed a 30-year stadium ban after his attack on AZ Alkmaar goalkeeper Esteban Alvarado forced the abandonment of a Dutch Cup game against Ajax at the Amsterdam Arena last Wednesday.
The 19-year-old was charged with aggravated assault after running onto the pitch and aiming a kick at Alvarado, who retaliated by kicking the man before being sent off.
After Alvarado was dismissed, Alkmaar coach Gert Jan Verbeek ordered his team to leave the pitch and the match was called off with Ajax leading 1-0.
Ajax informed the man's lawyer that he had received a 30-year stadium ban on the weekend, German news agency Deutsche Presse-Agentur (DPA) reported, citing Dutch newspaper De Volkstrant.
The ban, which prevents him from attending Ajax matches at the venue for three decades, is the longest ever handed down by the club.
DPA also reported that the fan was being held in jail, and that Costa Rica-born Alvarado has also laid a charge against the man.
