Gibson fires Marseille warning
Both sides battled to a hard-fought goalless draw in France last month as Marseille adopted a defensive approach at Stade Velodrome. United welcome the French champions to Old Trafford on Tuesday and Gibson insists the fact that Marseille need to win to progress will play into their hands. "Both teams just cancelled each other on the night," Gibson told skysports.com at an event promoting EA SPORTS FIFA 11 Ultimate Team. "There weren't many chances to be honest, but coming back to Old Trafford it will be a different story. "They sat back and soaked up the pressure we were putting on them and we just cancelled each other out. "Obviously they need a result and we are at home so they have to come out going for it and we will obviously be going for it as well, but it plays into our hands because we are at Old Trafford. "They are a good side, but I think we can beat them if we play well." Gibson, who started the first game in France, is hoping to get the nod from Sir Alex Ferguson to face Marseille again and make up for the loss to Bayern Munich in last season's quarter-finals. The Republic of Ireland international scored his first European goal in the Bayern tie last season, but it was not enough as the Germans progressed to the semi-finals on away goals. Gibson is looking forward to another special European night at Old Trafford and is hoping for a better outcome than the Bayern contest. "I would love it to be a special night at Old Trafford, but I want to get a result this time as obviously we got put out last time," added Gibson. "I would be delighted to play again and to score would be unbelievable."
