Ghana's Appiah: We play on worse fields at home

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah says his players have to play on worse pitches at home than the much-criticized surface at Nelspruit's Mbombela Stadium and they shouldn't let it affect them in Wednesday's African Cup semifinal against Burkina Faso.

Appiah says his players ''are all professionals ... they should be fine with it,'' urging them to quickly adjust to the poor sandy surface in Nelspruit on which Burkina Faso has played its entire tournament.

Ghana wasn't allowed to train on the pitch Tuesday, meaning the team's first look at the field will be on Wednesday.

Appiah says ''you've got no choice. You have to go out there and compete whether the pitch is good or bad.'' He adds ''back home we have got pitches that are much much worse.''
