The Ghana Football Association is concerned about an apparent hamstring injury to France-based winger Andre Ayew just two weeks before the start of the African Cup of Nations.

The GFA says it has asked Ayew's club Marseille to release him for an assessment after receiving a medical report from the French side. According to the report, the 23-year-old Ayew injured his hamstring while training in France this week.

Ghana's football body says it wants Ayew to join up with the rest of the squad for a pre-African Cup training camp in Abu Dhabi from Saturday, when the GFA medical staff will ''ensure his speedy recovery.''

The African Cup in South Africa kicks off on Jan. 19. Ghana's first game is against Congo on Jan. 20.
