Gerrard focusing on recovery
Steven Gerrard is pleased to have finally had surgery on a troublesome groin problem and is positive about his recovery and future fitness.
The Liverpool and England midfielder had surgery in early March, ruling him out of the remainder of the season, having struggled with the problem for several months in the current campaign and also in previous years.
However, now he can concentrate on his recovery and he believes the club made the right decision to send him for an operation.
"Being injured is absolutely killing me," he wrote in his programme notes for Sunday's Premier League match at home to Newcastle.
"The manager and everyone else do their best to make you feel part of it but unless you are out there starting every week it doesn't quite feel the same.
"Having said that, I am pleased I have had the surgery because for the first time in a while I'm feeling confident about my groin.
"Fingers crossed I'll be there on the first day of pre-season."
