Former England midfielder Paul Gascoigne has been arrested for drugs offences, sources said on Friday.

His arrest came days after the troubled former England player was warned he faced jail when he admitted drink driving at Newcastle Magistrates Court.

Gascoigne was held at a house in Burradon, North Tyneside, on Thursday night.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "At shortly after 5.30pm on Thursday, police attended a property in North Tyneside.
