Blues boss Alex McLeish confirmed on Friday that he was optimistic a deal would be struck despite his club having their initial bid rejected by Villa. And the club's official website later confirmed Gardner is all set to complete a £3million move to his boyhood heroes. McLeish told Birmingham's official website: "Craig is a versatile and dynamic player who can perform in a number of positions. "Players like that are really worth their weight in gold."
