A fan of Scottish club Kilmarnock died Sunday after collapsing with a suspected heart attack during a league match against Hibernian, which was abandoned as a result.
Police Scotland said the man, who was in his 50s, died in hospital after being treated by paramedics and medical staff from both clubs at the side of the pitch at Rugby Park, the home of Kilmarnock.
The Scottish Premier League match was abandoned after 54 minutes, with the score at 1-1.
Kilmarnock chairman Michael Johnston said the game was abandoned out of ''respect for the fan and his family.'' The fan is a longtime season-ticket holder.
''Football is not as important as human life so we have shown our respect,'' said Kilmarnock manager Kenny Shiels, speaking before the fan's death was confirmed.
In March last year, Kilmarnock's Scottish League Cup-winning celebrations following its victory over Celtic at Hampden Park were cut short following the death of midfielder Liam Kelly's father from a heart attack. The following month, an Inverness fan collapsed and died midway through the second half of a game against Kilmarnock.
Dundee was relegated to the First Division after drawing 1-1 at home to Aberdeen, while already-crowned champion Celtic drew 1-1 at Ross County.
