Freiburg kept up their excellent record against sides from the upper echelons of the Bundesliga as they picked up a point in a 0-0 draw at Borussia Monchengladbach.

The Bundesliga strugglers, who have beaten Schalke and drawn with Bayern Munich in two of their last three games, frustrated third-placed Gladbach to boost their chances of avoiding relegation.

Gladbach's slim title hopes are now all but over, though, after they failed to win for the third game running.

Lucien Favre's side have also now failed to score in two consecutive games for the first time this season.

The home side enjoyed the lion's share of possession from start to finish, but their finishing left a lot to be desired.

A blocked shot from Marco Reus was the best they could muster in the first half-an-hour.

At the other end, Tony Jantschke nearly put through his own goal just before half-time when he headed a corner against the underside of the crossbar.

The Foals increased the tempo in the second half, building up for a late onslaught on the Freiburg goal.

Oliver Baumann came into his own to deny Marco Reus in the 86th minute before making a dramatic save to prevent Filip Daems from giving Gladbach a win late on.

Daems had another go in the last minute, but the Freiburg keeper would not be beaten as he secured his side's fifth point in three games against sides from the top four.
