Eintracht Frankfurt have appointed former Werder Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf as their new manager, the club have announced.
Schaaf takes the place of Armin Veh, who stepped down at the end of the season to rejoin his former club Stuttgart, and has signed a two-year deal.
"Thomas Schaaf will be the new head coach, he signed a contract until 30 June 2016," read a statement on the club's official website.
The 53-year-old has been out of work for a year since leaving Bremen once he had secured their top-flight status last May.
He spent almost 35 years with the northern Germany club, first as a player and then, for 14 years, as coach of their first team, winning a Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal double in 2004.
Bremen regularly qualified for the Champions League during Schaaf's spell in charge but, after three years without European football, he stepped down to allow for some fresh blood.
Frankfurt played in the Europa League this season but struggled to a 13th-placed finish in the Bundesliga, one position and three points behind Schaaf's former club.
