Former Liverpool star Robbie Fowler scored 12 minutes apart in the second half to lead his North Queensland Fury out of last place in Australia's A-League with a 2-0 win over Gold Coast United.

Fowler increased his season goal tally to eight in a controversial match played at a Gold Coast stadium with just 2,616 fans. United team owner Clive Palmer capped the attendance at 5,000 by closing off three sides of the stadium to save an estimated $100,000.
