Former UEFA general secretary David Taylor dies

GLASGOW, Scotland (AP) Scotland's Football Association says former UEFA general secretary David Taylor has died. He was 60.

The SFA says Taylor's death was confirmed by UEFA, where he worked as chief executive of its commercial operations.

In a statement on its website, the Scottish body says its former chief executive had fallen ill, though no details were given.

SFA President Campbell Ogilvie describes Taylor as ''astute, forward-thinking and passionate.''

For two years until 2009, Taylor was UEFA general secretary under President Michel Platini.

Taylor joined UEFA after serving eight years as Scottish football's chief executive. He was key to a Scottish and Irish proposal to expand the European Championship from 16 teams to 24.
