Former Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness has been granted day parole seven months after going to prison for tax evasion.

Bavaria's state justice ministry says Hoeness is allowed to leave prison during the day to work as of Friday, though he will have to return in the evening - a common arrangement in Germany.

Bayern has said it hopes to give Hoeness a job in its youth department this month.

Hoeness was convicted in March of evading taxes through an undeclared bank account in Switzerland, and sentenced to 3 1/2 years in prison. He started serving his sentence in June.
