Fiorentina fired Sinisa Mihajlovic and hired Delio Rossi as its new manager Monday after winning just three of its opening 10 matches.

Rossi, who formerly managed Lazio and Palermo - among other clubs - agreed to a deal through to 2012-13, the club said on its website.

Aiming to qualify for the Europa League with a top-five finish, Fiorentina currently lies 12th in Serie A, nine points behind leader Juventus and just four points above the relegation zone.

Mihajlovic led Fiorentina to a ninth-place finish last season in his first year in charge.

His tenure was marked by a series of injuries. Key playmaker Stevan Jovetic missed all of last season following knee surgery and center forward Alberto Gilardino recently returned from a month out, also due to a knee injury.

Two more players were injured in Sunday's 1-0 loss at Chievo Verona, with fullback Mattia Cassani out for up to six weeks with a right knee injury and midfielder Valon Behrami to miss two to three weeks with a thigh muscle tear.

Mihajlovic becomes the sixth manager fired in Serie A since the start of the preseason.

Cagliari dismissed Roberto Donadoni and Palermo sacked Stefano Pioli before the season began, then Inter Milan fired Gian Piero Gasperini in September, Bologna got rid of Pierpaolo Bisoli at the beginning of October and Cesena threw out Marco Giampaolo last week.
