Jacobs said he was disappointed that the board and chief executive Eric Gudde felt the Rotterdam outfit would be better off without him. "I have had the impression that I can no longer function optimally at the club for some time because I feel that I may block the development of the club," he told the club's website. "Some people see me as the personification of the past, probably because I'm the only remaining director from the era when the then celebrated - but now widely criticised - decision was taken to attract expensive players." Feyenoord finished 10th in last season's Eredivisie.
