Fergie: I will rest key players

Sir Alex Ferguson will rest some of his Manchester United stars when they host relegation-threatened Blackpool on the last day of the season.

United wrapped up Premier League title success with a 1-1 draw at Blackburn last weekend ahead of their Champions League final against Barcelona later this month.

Manager Ferguson has indicated he will rotate his squad ahead of the Wembley showdown, no doubt to keep his key players injury-free.

But the Scotsman insists his tweaked United side will produce nothing less than a professional attempt to win the game so as not to hand the 18th-placed Seasiders an unfair advantage over their fellow strugglers.

Ferguson said in the Daily Mail: "This gives us a real opportunity to look at how we can rest players and who needs to keep going.

"But we have a responsibility to make sure we are fair to all clubs who are struggling against relegation.

"Manchester United will try to win next Sunday, there is no doubt about that."

Despite Ferguson's plans to adjust his line-up, the manager will be aware of the Premier League's rule that states clubs must field a full-strength side in every match.

Blackpool were hit with a £25,000 sanction earlier in the season when Ian Holloway made 10 changes to his team for a game they lost narrowly at Aston Villa.
