FAC: Chesterfield 2-2 Droylsden

BY foxsports • December 9, 2008

Droylsden's FA Cup dreams are still alive after they held Chesterfield to a 2-2 draw in a controversial second-round tie at Saltergate.

The match exploded 12 minutes from the end when Jack Lester enraged the visitors by scoring after Droylsden had put the ball out of play.

But when the throw-in reached Lester, he lobbed the keeper from 30 yards and the match was held up as Droylsden protested furiously.

Chesterfield then allowed Steve Halford to walk unchallenged the length of their half to tap the ball into the net to equalise.

Jamie Ward had given the Spireites a 31st-minute lead in a game replayed after the first meeting was fogged off 10 days ago but Alex Brown headed an equaliser in the 50th minute.

Ward had a great chance to win it for Chesterfield in the 89th minute but Droylsden deserved another chance to reach the third round for the first time.
