Sydney FC have appointed former Australia coach Frank Farina to manage former Juventus star Alessandro Del Piero's team for the remainder of the A-League season.
Farina, who is currently coaching Papua New Guinea, will arrive in Sydney later this week and will coach Sydney in Sunday's match against Melbourne Heart. He replaces Ian Crook, who stepped down as coach earlier this month.
The 48-year-old Farina coached Australia from 1999-2005 before leading the Brisbane Roar for three A-League seasons.
Sydney chairman Scott Barlow said in a statement Wednesday that Farina can deal with the demands of coaching a high profile team, adding ''Frank has the experience, leadership and coaching acumen to have a positive and immediate impact.''
