Captain Patrice Evra has been dropped from the France starting lineup to face South Africa in the final Group A match at the World Cup after leading the player strike in Sunday's training session.

Coach Raymond Domenech made six changes to the team that lost 2-0 to Mexico for Tuesday's Group A match in which France must win to have any chance of reaching the second round.

Anelka was sent home on Saturday, two days after a heated argument with Domenech at halftime of the Mexico match. The players then protested his expulsion by refusing to train on Sunday.

With Evra on the bench, Alou Diarra takes over the captain's armband.

Djibril Cisse replaces Anelka in attack. It is the Panathinaikos striker's first start for France since a 2-0 friendly win over Ecuador in May 2008.

Domenech also selected Sebastien Squillaci, Gael Clichy, Andre-Pierre Gignac, Alou Diarra and Yoann Gourcuff. Midfielder Jeremy Toulalan is suspended after receiving two yellow cards in the tournament.

South Africa coach Carlos Alberto Parreira made five changes from the team which lost 3-0 to Uruguay. Parreira opted for a more attacking lineup, pairing strikers Bernard Parker and Katlego Mphela up front.

As expected, Parreira also brought in goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs and midfielder Thanduyise Khuboni for Itumeleng Khune and Kagisho Digkacoi, who are both suspended.

The Brazilian coach also gave defender Anele Ngcongca and midfielder Macbeth Sibaya their first starts at the tournament.

If Mexico and Uruguay draw in the other group game then France and South Africa are eliminated.
