Evans lauds victorious Millers
Dundee United boss Peter Houston was delighted after his side fought back to secure a 2-1 win over Ross County.
Johnny Russell knocked in the equaliser, setting up Stuart Armstrong to nod in the winner just after the hour having trailed to Iain Vigurs' glancing header.
It was the second time in two weeks the Tangerines had to come from behind. They were 2-0 and 3-1 down at home to Kilmarnock before recovering to draw 3-3 eight days ago.
Houston said: "Again we went a goal behind but we showed great character and got a goal back fairly early after Ross County scored.
"From there on in I only thought there was going to be one winner. We created a few chances and I'm delighted with the three points.
"It was a tough, tough match. To come up here and get a win was never going to be easy. Other teams have struggled up here, so I have to give my players great credit for getting the three points.
"I've got to mention, I thought our supporters were magnificent. They cheered the team from the start right to the final whistle."
Sam Williams struck from the penalty spot in injury time to claim victory for the home side after Youl Mawene was adjudged to have fouled him in the box.
But Mellon was not pleased with the decision. He said: "I think there's not a person in the stadium who thought it was a penalty kick.
"I don't know how he thought it was a penalty because he was that far away from it. I don't think he was close enough to give it."
Mellon insisted that up to that point his side had done enough to win the game. He continued: "We played all the football and made some good chances.
"They were limited to just the long ball forward. To lose in the fashion we did is so disappointing."
Ian Sharps scored the only goal of the game three minutes before half-time at St James Park on Saturday when he glanced Ben Pringle's corner into the net, but the Millers were reduced to 10 men late in the game when substitute Mitchell Rose was sent off just two minutes after coming on.
"It is going to be a long trip home but the rollercoaster continues. We have got the good, the bad and we have not got the ugly yet," Evans said.
"The ugly is when you win when you don't play particularly well and we are having to play well to win the games. It is a big win. You have to respect Exeter as a team, they have beaten Bradford away and gone to the league leaders and thoroughly deserved their win.
"The only disappointment from my point of view is that we were not two or three at the interval. You always know you are going to have some pressure from Exeter. We said to the players before the game that we would settle for a thoroughly professional 1-0 victory. We had a disciplined shape.
"To come here without some of our key players and win is a good achievement. We knew we had players in the wide areas that could hurt them. I asked the boys to show desire and they did that in abundance."
