Dyer, who signed on a free transfer this summer, has played only six minutes of competitive football for Rangers due to an ankle injury which he suffered on his debut against Bolton. The 32-year-old, who has been plagued by serious injuries throughout his career, was thought to be making good progress on what was originally diagnosed as a short-term problem, but he has suffered a setback. To make matters worse, manager Neil Warnock confirmed that Dyer has also suffered a ligament injury in his foot, further lengthening his recovery time. Warnock told QPR's website: "He's got a ligament problem in his foot and has been in a lot of pain. "Kieron made such an effort to be ready for the new season and we all really feel for him. "We're not going to rush him back - he's got to be right." Having hoped his move to QPR would re-ignite a career ravaged by serious injury problems, Dyer is understandably disappointed at the setback. "Kieron's absolutely devastated," QPR head physio Nigel Cox said. "He was so upbeat that he had completed a full pre-season. "He was raring to go for the new season so we were all gutted for him. "The injury is completely unlinked to any that he's had before and it's very unfortunate. "We're using a London surgeon, who is one of the most highly-respected ankle surgeons in the world. "He's only ever seen this type of injury three or four times in his career - that shows you the uncommonness of what's happened." Given that Dyer has been plagued by injuries during his career, signing the former England midfielder on a one-year deal this summer was always going to be a gamble for Warnock, even though he was on a free transfer. The former Sheffield United boss insists he will not give up on the player, however. "It looks as if he will need a lengthy rehab. There has been talk we should maybe think of finding Kieron another club at Christmas, bearing in mind we have a number of new players," Warnock told the Fulham Chronicle. "But I would like to keep him until the end of the season - he deserves that at least."
