Striker Antonio Di Natale failed to find the back of the net for the first time this year but he was not given many chances to score either as Cagliari did most of the attacking.

Thiago Ribeiro was their biggest threat, but the ball did not seem attracted to the goal as both sides shared a point.

The first chance of the game was a free-kick by Di Natale, who was aiming for his sixth goal of the season in all competitions, but his effort was just off target.

Thiago Ribeiro was then put through at the other end in the 10th minute, but he lacked the pace to race clear of the last Udinese defender, who disturbed him enough to make his shot a weak one which Samir Handanovic had no problem with.

At the other end a minute later, Michele Agazzi tipped Gabriel Torje's header over the bar and that was about the last Udinese produced in attack as Cagliari took control of the game.

The dangerous Thiago was again put through on goal in the 13th minute and, with his back to goal, he played the ball back to Nene, whose shot was cleared off the line by Maurizio Domizzi.

The Sardinians remained on top of the game in the second half with Radja Nainggolan curling his 25-yard shot just over the bar in the 69th minute.

Joaquin Larrivey headed a Thiago cross wide of the post in the 78th minute as the home team continued to push for a goal which simply would not come.

Not even free-kick specialist Daniele Conti, marking his club record-equaling 328th appearance for Cagliari, could break the deadlock with a set-piece in the last 10 minutes which Handanovic saved.
