Doyle demands more of the same
Wolves are heading into a third successive away game but life on the road is suiting Mick McCarthy's side as they battle for top-flight survival. A win at Burnley and last Saturday's impressive display against Aston Villa that earned them a point at Villa Park has seen Wolves open up a four-point gap between themselves and the relegation zone. But Doyle has vowed no-one at Molineux will be resting on their laurels and he expects to see the same level of performance against a West Ham side who trail Wolves by a point. Republic of Ireland international Doyle, who will again lead the attack as a lone striker in Mick McCarthy's 4-5-1 formation, said: "There is no point us putting in such a good performance against Villa and going to a team who are in the same sort of position as ourselves and not putting in a similar performance. "We have to get something from the game. In the past we have played well against the better teams and the following match struggled against lesser teams. We have to make amends against West Ham. "We know that West Ham will be fancying the win. But we have confidence in ourselves and we can see ourselves getting closer and closer to a safe position in the Premiership. "We are far from being safe at the moment but every point is vital and if we can get something out of the West Ham game it will be another real bonus." Doyle has had some personal success against West Ham in the past when he played for Reading and he would love to repeat those goalscoring heroics in such a crucial encounter. "We won 6-0 at the Madjeski Stadium and I scored a couple of goals," revealed Doyle. "I would like to think I could score another couple on Tuesday but they have come a long way since those days." Doyle has only scored six goals this season and has not scored for six games. But McCarthy is full of praise for his contribution to the team and he said: "Doyler has been terrific. "He wants a goal. He might try a shot when there may be a pass but I wouldn't stop Doyler shooting because he does it with either foot. "There is a lot being spoken about Doyler and whether he will be here if we stay up or we go down or whatever else it is. "But let me tell you he is a team player and I bet he doesn't like all the chat about him. I don't imagine he would. He just gets on and does his job. "He is a Premiership player but I bet it slightly embarrasses him the amount of time we spend talking about him. He is just a conscientious team player." While the clash with West Ham is a huge one, McCarthy is convinced his players will take it in their stride as they have had a survival mindset all season. He added: "They have all been pressure games, every single game. "If we lose one, we are written off, if we win one it all changes again. "You have to stay level and calm rather than be up and down when you win or lose," added McCarthy, who plans to name an unchanged side for the seventh successive match.
