Downing: I deserved Capello call
Stewart Downing has hit out at England manager Fabio Capello for leaving him out of his World Cup squad without explanation.
Downing did not even make Capello's initial 30-man squad for the tournament but the 26-year-old was still left disappointed with the manner of his omission.
He was quoted in The Sun as saying: "A lot of people who had not played were in the squad as were people out of form - but others were left out.
"It was a little strange and I was very disappointed as I thought, maybe, I had a chance to get in the 30 at least.
"He obviously has his reasons why but the disappointing thing was I didn't get told why I wasn't in the squad.
"That's his choice and there's no point in moaning about it now."
The former Middlesbrough midfielder also feels that if Villa were to sell James Milner to Manchester City for a reported fee of around £25million it would represent a good bit of business for the Villans.
"The money they are talking about is a substantial amount for one player," he said.
"If we can replace him with a player of his ability then it's good business."
