Dickov keen to appeal red card
Oldham manager Paul Dickov hopes to see Cliff Byrne's red card in the victory at Portsmouth overturned.
The Latics claimed all three points after Jonathan Grounds' cross-cum-shot slid into the Pompey net after taking a deflection off debutant Johnny Ertl after 59 minutes.
Both sides were then reduced to 10 men in a cloud of confusion four minutes later. Jordan Obita was dismissed for Portsmouth for an apparent elbow, before Cliff Byrne also saw red.
However, Oldham's sending off could be rescinded due to a case of mistaken identity, as it was Connor Brown who was involved in the tussle with Obita.
"I think they realise it was a mistake, so hopefully common sense will prevail," said Dickov. "It's a strange one for me because in my short time as a manager I've never had to appeal."
Asked whether he thought Brown should have been sent off, Dickov replied: "I've not seen it. We'll have to have a look at it. I've been with the referee and we all make mistakes. I know that, I've made plenty myself. I'm just glad it didn't affect the result of the game in the end."
