DFB probes Duesseldorf pitch invasion
The Germans football federation has opened an investigation into a pitch invasion during the final minutes of a relegation match between Fortuna Duesseldorf and Hertha Berlin.
Duesseldorf secured promotion to the Bundesliga on Tuesday with a 2-2 draw against Hertha. The game was held up twice when fireworks and flares landed on the field, and once more with less than two minutes of injury time to be played when Duesseldorf fans stormed the pitch.
Hertha coach Otto Rehhagel described the chaotic scenes in the stadium as ''a catastrophe'' the likes of which he had never experienced in his 38-year coaching career.
The German federation says its supervisory committee has launched a probe into the incident and ''appropriate'' punishment for those responsible would be found.
