Second-half goals from Lucas Perez and Ivan Cavaleiro following defensive mistakes means Depor have now taken 11 points from their six league games this calendar year, with their only loss coming at the hands of Barcelona.

That run has lifted them clear of the drop zone and to within three points of eighth-placed Eibar, who have suddenly hit a sticky patch.

Eibar, playing in the top flight for the first time in their history, have been the success story of the season so far, but Friday's defeat means they have now picked up just one point from their last four games and could yet be sucked into the relegation dogfight.

The Basque minnows did not help themselves at the Riazor, with both of Depor's goals coming from glaring errors by the visitors, the first of which from goalkeeper Xabier Irureta saw the hosts take a 52nd-minute lead.

He came off his line to try and claim a high ball into the box but succeeded only in spilling it to Lucas on the edge of the area, and the Depor man drilled home a first-time shot with his left foot.

Depor were also gifted their second goal 11 minutes from time as Portugal international Cavaleiro wrapped up the points.

Borja Ekiza carelessly tried to play the ball back to Irureta without looking and gave Cavaleiro the chance to charge in on the keeper. The two players got to the ball at almost exactly the same time but it was Cavaleiro who won the tackle before smashing home into the empty net.

The win was no more then Depor deserved, with Juanfran almost putting them ahead in the first half with a shot that Irureta turned over, while at the other end Fabricio was equal to Federico Piovaccari and Borja Fernandez's second-half efforts.
