Dempsey unhappy with Fulham

Former Fulham forward Clint Dempsey has claimed the club lied about his situation before a deadline-day switch to Tottenham was sealed.

Dempsey had made it clear a long time ago that he saw his future away from Craven Cottage and it was believed Liverpool was his most likely destination.

Fulham reported the Anfield club to the Premier League for allegedly tapping up Dempsey, who had been left out of manager Martin Jol's side for the opening games of the new season.

The 29-year-old USA international then made a surprise late move to London rivals Spurs on the final day of the transfer window and has now revealed he was unhappy with how his exit was handled.

"There were some things that were said that weren't true," he told Sky Sports

"That's in the past now. It's about looking toward to the future and like I said, I'm looking forward to playing with Tottenham. It's a great team, a great club."

Dempsey, who was not signed in time to make his Tottenham debut in the 1-1 draw with Norwich on Saturday, praised the Fulham supporters but was sad with the circumstances surrounding his exit from the club.

He said: "I want to thank the fans of Fulham. It's been five great years.

"Some of my best memories in football have been there. I want to thank the chairman for taking a chance on me from MLS and I wish them well in the future.

"I'm disappointed in the way I was portrayed, in the end, with Fulham.

"I always wanted to play at the highest level possible. That was never a secret. That's something I always said."

Fulham have declined to comment on Dempsey's allegations.
