Juventus captain Alessandro Del Piero has hailed the importance of Sunday's 2-1 Serie A win over Bari after a poor run of results in Serie A.

The result in Turin halted Juve's poor run of form and lifted the Bianconeri to fifth place in the Italian top flight.

"We knew this game was very important for us," Del Piero said.

"We had gone into the game having collected just one point from our previous three games and we had to change that trend."

On-loan Liverpool midfielder Alberto Aquilani scored the winner 11 minutes from time after Bari's Gergely Rudolf had cancelled out Del Piero's opener.

"I believe those who played today did really well," Del Piero added.

"Even though this was not our best game, we certainly showed character and determination.

"It was not easy considering the number of injured players we have.

"Now we have to build on this result."

Juve will travel to Genoa next Sunday to face Sampdoria still without Vincenzo Iaquinta, Leandro Rinaudo, Paolo De Ceglie, Jorge Martinez, Fabio Quagliarella and Luca Toni, who are all sidelined through injury.
