Defoe: Spurs can win the title
Jermain Defoe has echoed Harry Redknapp's belief that Tottenham have what it takes to lift the Premier League title.
And with Spurs having their best ever season in the top flight last year by clinching a Champions League spot, Defoe feels it is only a matter of time before they begin challenging for the Premier League trophy.
"The manager (Redknapp) has said there's no reason why we can't win the league. If it's not this year, then the year after," said the 28-year-old.
"The way the league has been going, I suppose it's there for a lot of teams.
"It's different at Spurs now, especially after last season. Every game we think 'Do you know what? We can win this'.
"It is not a case of going somewhere and thinking 'Well, we could get a draw. That would be good enough'.
"When you look round the training ground, you think 'Wow this is the club'. This is where you want to be.
"We are sharp, the movement is great and the best thing is we take that into the games. We create chances, are good to watch and you know you have to play well to be in the team."
Ever since Defoe first trained with the England squad, the prolific striker saw the will to win from the Red Devils contingent that he is eager to emulate.
"The Manchester United players, the likes of Rio, Phil Neville, Gary Neville, Becks, in little five-a-sides, they want to win every game. And if they don't win they are moaning.
"It didn't matter what game they were playing in, they wanted to win. I think that's a great thing to have and it's important we have that."
Defoe is back in action following 10 weeks out with an ankle ligament injury and is keen to announce his comeback by helping Spurs to defeat Liverpool on Sunday.
Roy Hodgson's men are this season experiencing indifferent form making Redknapp's side the favourites to come away with all three points.
"That's the standard we've set, especially from last season, by finishing fourth," Defoe added.
"Not just being fourth but having that consistency, where we were in the top four for a lot of the time."
